Dogs are such loyal creatures and we often hear how they bravely defend their owners, even at the risk of their own lives.
Like this brave pooch, Rocky, who chased a mountain lion that was a threat to his family.
How brave – and lucky – a puppy!
Marie Padres, from La Warne, California, screamed when she came across a large, wild mountain lion in her garden.
“The mountain lion was looking at me,” Mary told CBS Los Angeles. “It was huge.”
Mary’s two dogs went into protective mode and defended the family. A pair of dogs barked at the mountain lion in an attempt to scare him.
In a world of bravery, Rocky, a seven-year-old Pit Bull mix, barked and chased the lion.
Fearless, Rocky chased after the larger and faster animal, which was taking him to a hill.
Mary’s family went out to rescue Rocky, even though the lion was nearby.
Eventually, he found Rocky badly injured on the hill behind his house.
Padres reported to KTLA that he had a wound so deep in his head that you could see up to the bone.
Rocky’s head injury resulted in 30 stitches, while the rest of his bodily injuries turned out to be less severe. He is very lucky to have gone from Monday to Monday with a hunter who specializes in night hunting.
“Rocky … was protecting us,” Padres said, adding that she was proud of her dog. “[He] is a fighter. He definitely has a name.”
